Senegal's government offered free land for Haitians who decide to go to the African state.
President Abdoulaye Wade offered free land or even an entire region to the "sons and daughters of Africa," descendants of slaves in the western part of the continent.
"If only they offer are a few houses or land. If they come en masse will be ready to give them a region," said a government spokesman.
President Wade said that Haitians are "sons and daughters of Africa."
"The president is offering voluntary repatriation to any Haitian who wants to return to their origins," said presidential spokesman Mamadou Ndiaye Bemba.
Tuesday's earthquake killed tens of thousands and left many more homeless.
"As more resources could perhaps stay in the few hotels that are up and running, the poor were left with no more than take to the streets. Literally," describes the envoy BBC World Service, Carlos Chirinos.
